Take a look!
Year 2 had a great time at the Thackray Medical Museum.
The children learned all about Florence Nightingale in an interactive workshop followed by some drama which the children really enjoyed.
The children were then able to exlpore the museum in small groups.
World Book Day!
The children had a great day dressing up as their favourite book character.
Purple Class are lucky to have Forest Schools working with them on a Thursday afternoon. The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals through positive outdoor experiences. This week the children made a fire and toasted marshmallows on it.
In Literacy the children have been learning some humorous poems by heart and performing them to the rest of the class.
The children have been exploring the celebrations and traditions of Chinese New Year.
We have been making lucky red envelopes that bring good luck.
We have also been making dancing dragons which also represents good luck and is a symbol of the beginning of spring.
In science the children have been learning about what superheroes need to stay strong and healthy.
We have focused on what our bodies are made up of and what our bones, muscles and organs need to stay healthy.
We have looked at the different foods and drinks that our bodies need to survive.
We have also carried out a science investigation to find out what would happen to our teeth after drinking sugary drinks.
We used 2 eggs that represented our teeth. We soaked one in water and one in cola.
The children found the results fascinating!
The egg in cola turned dark brown while the egg in water remained the same.
The children did find that the brown egg could be brushed clean with a toothbrush and therefore they learnt the importance of eating and drinking healthy things along with hygiene.
In Geography the children have been exploring their local area by going on a walk to the local shops.
They then compared Castleford to Beijing by contrasting their locations, population sizes, different terrains, climates and school life.
The children have been testing out the school's brand new Chrome Books!
Year Two have lots of new outdoor equipment, including a new wooden bird table.
The children have been making bird feeders out of lard, seeds and nuts to attach onto the table to attract the birds.
